By now, you’ve likely heard all about the CEOs at international corporations who have embraced meditation and have shared it with their employees.

But who, exactly, are these brilliant minds, and why is the practice so popular?

Not surprisingly, the reasons why these leaders practice meditation may mimic your own.

And even the most professional and famous people still need a break from stress, a better way to think and brainstorm, and a breather in the middle of a hectic day.

We’ve decided to share a closer look at the people who have publically stated how much meditation means to them, including all the reasons why.

And you may find that the reasons these famed leaders list as their motivation to meditate are exact mirrors of your own.

Oprah Winfrey, Chairwoman & CEO, Harpo Productions, Inc.

Oprah has said that she meditates for 20 minutes twice a day. She has even spread her practice with her team members, bringing in meditation teachers for her staff at Harpo Productions who want to give it a try.

In at least one public statement, Oprah has said that the reason she meditates is to create her best work and her best life. And to enjoy a daily helping of contentment, hope, and “deep joy.”

Rupert Murdoch, Chairman and CEO, News Corp

News giant Rupert Murdoch, who is relatively new to the practice, made headlines himself when he tweeted about meditation.

He said that it’s not that easy to get started, but that it was recommended by everyone and was “said to improve everything!

Padmasree Warrior, CTO, Cisco Systems

Padmasree, who has a tough job as the chief strategy and technology officer of Cisco Systems, says that she started using meditation as part of a “technology detox.”

She found that it helped her oversee the 22,000 employees that she managed.

Noting that it was a “reboot” for the brain and soul, she also stated that it makes her so much calmer in the workplace – quite a feat considering the stressful nature of her job!

Tony Schwartz, Founder & CEO, The Energy Project

Tony is a longtime meditation fan! He has practiced it for more than 20 years.  He said he got started simply as a way to quiet his always busy mind.

He reported that meditation has helped to free him from migraines and improve his work performance across the board – all while enjoying a reservoir of energy physically, mentally and emotionally.

Bill Ford, Executive Chairman, Ford Motor Company

Bill is one of the most vocal proponents of meditation, as he attends regular meditation conferences and speaks publically about the benefits of the practice.

Ford reports that he uses meditation to help him go through every day with compassion, which in turn makes his company run better.

This is just a sample of the brilliant minds who meditate. As more and more leaders from the corporate, political and celebrity realm come forward, expect to hear even more stories about how meditation improves and enhances lives.

Whether you’re a world famous head of a Fortune 500 company or just a person in need of a release from typical stresses, meditation truly is a treatment that can improve us all.
